Steve Tracy was born in Santa Clara, California in 1953. At an early age he was given his first set of oil paints and he quickly discovered how liberating art could be.
Steve embraced the cultural revolution of the late 1960s and early 1970s. He relocated to SoHo, New York City where he worked at Robert Mapplethorpe's studio, met Andy Warhol and lived next door to John Lennon and Yoko Ono.
During this period he also found time to study Jazz, French and Art - attending New York's School of Visual Art in 1972.
Steve continued his formal training at Metro State College (1976) and the Colorado Institute of Art (1980) before moving to Berkeley CA to study printmaking at the Kala Institute (1986).
Steve's creative journey eventually found him working as a scenic artist with a film company.
Working in the film industry left Steve plenty of time to paint with friends and mentors, Win Ng and Riko Takata. It also taught Steve that the world was his palette.
In 2007, Steve completed a special commission for the Hemingway Museum in Oak Park, Illinois. His paintings also hang in many corporate collections, including Cirque du Soleil, Microsoft, Apple, Kaiser Permanente of Northern California and Bank of America.
As a visual art instructor, Steve has worked with art institutes in Colorado and Hawaii and conducted workshops throughout the United States and Scotland.
