Ron
Patterson studied ceramics at California State
University Long Beach under the late Dr. Ward Youry.
After years of production pottery he attended a Raku
workshop given by Walter Dexter while living in
British Columbia. Fascinated by the immediate
results of the process, Patterson turned his full
attention to Raku.
Now 24
years later he still gets the excitement as he did
from day one. Ron produces all of his work from his
studio in the high desert of Sparks, Nevada.
Patterson has always loved the mystique of the
wishing jars. Many different cultures vary in their
interpretation, he likes the burning wish condensing
in the jar and the smoke carrying the wish to
fulfillment. Patterson makes different size jars for
varying taste. Large jars have also been used for
funeral urns, medium for pet urns.
WISHING JARS
Wishing Jars are thought to hold and condense a
persons wish on a piece of paper, then burning it
inside the jar with the lid closed, the smoke
escaping from the jar carries the wish to
fulfillment.
