Mostafa
Darehbaghi started his professional career sixteen
years ago not only as an artist, but also as an
explorer of perspective and visual innovation using
a variety of skills and a diverse array of
materials. Mostafa employs in his work a harmonic
blend of series of geometric rhythmic patterns with
figurative subjects to create a unique abstract
atmosphere. He expresses his view about his
figurative work: “I see a lot of interconnection
between animals with their mysterious ways and the
human condition. Showing that interconnection by
employing line, pattern, color, texture, rhythm, and
composition is very exiting to me.” This excitement
and sensitivity in the use of figurative symbols is
evidenced further in Mostafa’s modern abstract works
which increasingly resemble minimalist art.
Throughout his career, he has experienced and
mastered a great number of media which he
brilliantly employs in his abstract work to create
mathematical rhythms and repetitions which grounds
one in harmony, and suggest an order only found in
nature.
Mostafa’s
works have been exhibited around the world in 28
solo exhibition and more than 80 group shows in USA,
Sweden, Belgium, India, UAE, Iran, Croatia and
others. Mostafa debuted his unique abstract style to
the American viewer in 1991 with a group exhibition
at Columbia University, New York. Since then, in
addition to other shows in New York, he has had
numerous exhibitions throughout the US in
California, Arizona, Massachusetts, Nevada, Georgia,
Indiana, Washington DC, New Jersey, Florida, Texas,
and Vermont. He has been the first prize recipient
of the Tehran Biennial twice, first in 2001 and most
recently in 2003. Mostafa was born in 1966 in
Tehran, Iran where he studied at the Visual Art
School of Tehran, and later earned a BA in Azad Art
University of Tehran. |
