Leo
Atkinson is a self-taught lapidary artist, turned
sculptor. Much of the fun for Atkinson is in
procuring the stone with which he works. Stone, to
Atkinson, represents the most basic and elemental
(conscious) form of matter on Earth. Since, as
humans, we all experience a need to create, his
creative attainment seems to gravitate and attract
"energy" of Minerals and Fossils.
One of
Leo Atkinson's most passionate challenges as an
artist is to achieve perfection in form without
destroying any of the essential elements of the
intrinsic beauty and component parts of a fossil or
mineral specimen. Atkinson senses his special
contract and relationship with Earth Mother and
honors her. It is Her creations that inspire his own
creativity and direct his hand in sculpting. He
endeavors to assist us to reconnect to our Source
via our appreciation of her many gifts in the
multi-varied forms of Nature; expressly in the
Mineral Kingdom which acts for Atkinson as his
palette.
